Oppo, I come to you for insight and your wealth of knowledge when it comes to fine automobiles. Here is where I am at...
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I am looking to spend about $25k. I have found two vehicles that I am very interested in.
2013 328i M-Sport 6 speed RWD, Xenons, no other options. 36k miles. Balance of Factory warranty (9 months left)
2010 528i M-Sport RWD, fully loaded, every option. 20k miles. Automatic
The practical side of me says, the F30 with the warranty is the play. But after driving the steptronic 528, WOW. I am amazed. Its big, sturdy, quiet, and drove really nice. I was surprised i liked it so much. Plus the thing just looks bossy as hell, I know its not a 550 or M5 but it just feels like i need to pump Fat Joe Lean back on loop while driving it. The 528 has pretty much every option except the HUD and Adaptive cruise.
I can get the cars for very similar money. What to do Oppo?
Background, driving a 1series, but with a two year old and one on the way, its time for something bigger.

The N52 in the E60, as you probably know, is a very reliable engine. I will say, the M-sport makes it such a hard choice between the two, especially considering they both have it! If the E60 was manual it would be easy.. Does the E60 have better steering? I would think it would, being hydraulic..

If you plan on any sort of regular fun drive, the smaller car will be better.
If it’s just for shuttling human flesh, the 5 will feel like a more substantial car with a satisfying ride.

This is though, half of me says get that six speed, the other says get that straight 6. I’ve never actually driven and E60, the 2 F10 528i’s I drove were surprisingly good, but I’d go with my instinct and get that row your own 3. After having both an auto and stick BMW, I’d go for the stick 9 times out of 10, the other time would be the exception for the 7 series.

the steering was fantastic as you allude to being hydraulic. I was worried about the electric steering of the F30, but in Sport and Sport+ it was ALMOST just as heavy as the hydraulic steering in my 128.

You know I still haven't checked out an F30, I really should. Can't go wrong either way! Which way are you leaning?

I am leaning E60 right now. I have full suspension and performance exhaust on my 1series and it felt so satisfying driving the e60. I could hear the salesman talking to me. Thats not saying that the F30 was lound or rough, it wasnt.
I dont know, i guess i liking the “cruiser” aspect of the 5. But dont get me wrong, when i punched it, it went. And the shifts of the tranny were pretty good. I am leaning 5 i think.

If it was manual I would take the 5 7 days a week.. The engine is just so great. Maybe throw a few suspension mods on it and call it a day. Just wish it were manual!!

Edit, I can't read. If it's just a 528, go with the 3 series and warranty.

Whichever used car smells less of farts than the other.
